2023 to be a big year for road construction in the City of Barberton

During a 2023 Budget work session with City Council, the Administration gave more insight into their plans for road construction within the city limits for 2023. Aproximentaly $21 Million is to be invested, making 2023 one of the largest investments in history.

Below is a list of roads that are on the chopping block for the 2023 construction season. The following list is only for ODOT projects. The residential list is still being refined and will be released by the administration when final.

  • Fourth Street Resurfacing
  • Hopican, Snyder, Norton
  • Wooster Rd West
  • Wooster Rd & State Street
  • Van Buren
  • 3rd Street Reconfiguration (One-Way)

Hopican, Snyder, and Norton Ave are all separate projects but have been combined into a single project to lower the cost of construction.

Van Buren from Synder Ave to Russel Ave will be a complete reconstruction as well as new drainage for Barberton’s south side area. Along with new sewer and water lines, there will be one-way valves installed where the drainage connects to the river to limit any backflow when there are high waters in the waterways that run through the area.

The Van Buren will also address flooding on Eastern Rd by lowering the water up to 2 feet in the swamp located on private property off of Eastern Rd. Water from the northern part of the south side collects in this area and traditionally had nowhere to go, essentially flooding neighboring properties and roadways.

As these projects start, the Administration said they will be visiting the area’s to talk with residents and businesses to provide more information and answer any questions.
